Talking Life sux... NOT!

It was a hard day for a self employed, full-time student. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I’m at school from 0800 ‘til 1500 (that’s 8 am to 3 pm for you civilian types.) On Tuesdays and Thursdays I’m helping my wife earn our first million.

Today being Thursday, I got up at 0200 and left the house at 0245. I had to be at the galvanizer’s at 0700 this morning to get some hand rails galvanized and they’re 4 hours away. I got there at 0645, as I’d planned, waited for the hired help to show up late and was reminded how easy it is to make a living in this country if you will just work. I have no use for degenerate low lives that can’t motivate their selves to be at the liar’s clock at or before the designated work time. But I digress.

They unloaded me at 0730, galvanized my rails, and loaded my truck at or about 1030 and I signed the paperwork and was on my way to the jobsite with one detour. I had told a guy at a salvage yard I would stop by and look at a 40/20/40 split bench seat that I wanted for my F-250 extended cab. I stopped and saw the seat. It looked better than I thought it would but it was pulled out of a 150 extended cab. He or I, neither one, knew if it would fit my 250. So we walked back to where the 150 is and there was a 250 that had had bucket seats (like mine) right beside the 150. I compared the floor pans of the two and decided the 40/20/40 would fit.

Then I noticed what was once a sweet ‘97 F-350 crew cab. It was mashed up in the front where it had hit something and it was pretty much stripped down to the frame and cab but you could tell it use to be somebody’s baby. I walked over to look inside and I noticed something that I knew wasn’t stock. Was it true? Gray with red letters... Surely not. I walked around to the front to see if it could be. How could it have made it through the accident in near perfect shape? Three tiny holes in a...

Banks intercooler! Everything. After the turbo all the way to the engine! I was all cool. “How much for the intercooler and pipes?”

“I don’t know. Let’s go in and I’ll check.” We walk in. “Hmmm. It’s not in the computer.”

I’m thinking “No $h17. It wouldn’t be there if it had been in ‘The Computer’”

“Hey Billy Bob, how much for the intercooler on that red F-350? It’s not in not in the computer and I can’t find one in the system anywhere. No one has one to compare to.”

Billy Bob says “I know how much one costs for a Dodge.”

Then I realized he’s going to give me some stupid high number then I’m going to say “Thanks.” Get my seats and be on the way to the jobsite.

He looks at the floor for a few seconds. I could here the gears working. He looks right at me and I could tell he thought it was too much. He said,

“$200.00”

I like to have fallen over. I thought either he’s way off or I’m confused about something. I had to call someone quick before he changed his mind. I knew David (1996pwrstrk) would be available so I ask them to wait a second, walked outside and called David and told him about it.

He said “No? Really? You didn’t buy it yet?”

I told him I just wanted to make sure. You know, if it sounds too good to be true...

I went back in and told them I wanted it before they changed their minds.

I still can’t believe it. I’ll take some pictures in the next couple of days and post them here. Oh yeah. I forgot to get the seat. Guess I’ll have to go back.

nice. Man the salvage lot is a great place to kill an afternoon even if you don't run into fairytale land filled with banks intakes, great seats, and money to spend on them.

Yeah. I could live there. My wife even give me a high five on that one though. I figured I'd tell her and she'd be like "OK. You spent $200 on that truck."

Is anyone using an intercooler currently? I found a link on here where someone modified a late model intercooler and put it on a 7.3. It looked like the factory stuff fit pretty good but the guy made his own pipes.

Make sure to get us a pic of the install when you do it, Jimbo.

No. I bought that wrecked F-450 off eBay. I've got a lot of extra parts now.

Cool...those 10 lug axles and rims are going to look great on the 350.

That intercooler is going to make the engine swap easier too since most of the front clip will have to come off to get the cooler in.

Find a trailer to carry the 450 home on yet?
