Gas Tank On A 76 F250

hey i have a 1976 f250 high boy, with a 360 camper edition with the gas tank behind the seat of the cab and in the rear behind the axle. i bought the truck and they removed both gas tanks because the changed it to propane. so i restored the truck and am looking for a rear gas tank and nothing FITS , i ordered the 14 gallon , 16 gallon and 18 gallon ones that fit in the back and none of them fit. so i went to the junk yard and all the old f150's and f250's have bigger tanks and wider frames? ? any help on where to get a tank?

I just checked LMC and they dont offer a tank for a highboy. They offer a tank for 76 2wd but not a 76 4wd. The highboys have a narrower frame in the rear than the 2wds of the same year. Areo tanks are the only ones that I have found.

I heard that the Super Camper Special rear tanks fit in the Highboys, but the odds of finding one of those in a wrecking yard are even slimmer, but its worth a try.

I too looked without any sucess for a tank. So I put one in sideways. But a wreaking yard I was at had a one ton and it had a square tank about 18"x18"x12" but that yard drills the bottom of the tank out to drain the fuel.[what a waste] Then they would charge full price for the tank if you were desperate enough to want it.
