I know it's only August, but I was thinking about dusting off the old equiptment soon. Just curious if there were any other snow plowers out there. I'm running a Fisher 7-1/2' (non-electric)power angle plow, on my 1979 F150 4x4 351m c6 auto.

That's a nice combo. I like the western plow, it's a nice heavy duty setup. My brother has the same plow as you, but I really have had good luck with my Fisher. I don't mind plowing, but a few good storms in a row can make me hate it! the money is good though. I've been subbing off this big landscape outfit here in New Jersey as an owner/operator for the past 15 years. some guys pay more than them but they've been good to me, and the work is there.

Anyone ever had a problem with their truck running real hot while driving with the blade on? I had this problem driving to and from plowing jobs, and found that I have to angle my blade to the right while driving it with the blade on or it will overheat. Since this discovery, no problems.

Hi stockman, I see you like the Fisher also. Your picture just got me psyched!!! I'm hoping to get some decent snow here in Jersey this year. I wan't to buy some more goodies for the ole '59 F250.

Snow is never a problem here in upstate NY. The tug hill region sees approximately 250 inches annually. The fisher system seems to be the most durable albeit much heavier. My system actually is a combo of myers and fisher. I have a modified push bar which allows me to mount either a myers or fisher blade. Right now I use a myers blade.

Neighbor down the road is into the 59/60 F250 4x4's. He has two very nice ones which are bright orangeish. I have a 1960 F250 4x4 which has a good driveline, but the body is very rough. Maybe one day, I'll work on that one. Probably start it right after I finish the other 4 or 5 projects I have going but just can't seem to finish!

Kenny, just wondering if your truck has a fan shroud. If you still have the "M" motor, they are pretty finicky about having a shroud. I used to plow with a 79 150, 351M with a shroud, no overheating problems.

LAST EDITED ON 23-Sep-00 AT 11:18 PM (EST)[p]Stockman, Wow that's a lot of snow! Here in jersey we get some good years and some bad. a few years ago if you watched the weather channel, it looked like the white stuff always seemed to stop in the shape of New Jersey. I made out ok last year. I think I want to upgrade to the "Minute Man" Fisher setup instead of taking my bracket off every spring. Glad to hear you have one of those "forgotten" trucks too. When it comes time for that project, let me know if I can be of help in any way. Klear@eclipse.net. I know exactly what you mean about having too many projects.

Nathan, I still have the 351M and I do have the radiator shroud. I only had the "running hot" problem when I first outfitted the truck with a plow (about 18 years ago). Once I learned the "angle the blade while normal driving" trick, I have been ok.

Fortunate for us, it doesn't all come at once. I think the most we had right here was about 30" over 12-15 hours. That was a lot, but still manageable. It's usually light and fluffy "lake effect" snow. :-)

I've been using an '81 F250 with a 7.5 fisher speedcast to do our road about 2 miles. I've welded the rotten frame so many times that Im running out of places to weld. I started over the axle and I'm now up to the cab. Its ready to break in half again. Gas tank held in with rope, I don't dare put any weight in it. I think she's about done and its only got 105K on it. Runs good though. Also have my daily driver, an 85 F250 with an 8' fisher. I'll be curious to see how it plows this year as I just swapped the 302efi with a rebuilt 300-6. Hopefully, it'll go good.

I'd be happy just to get enough snow to justify hanging my blade on the truck. The last ten years here the plow just sat on the bare ground behind the garage.I have crystal clear memory of having to lock into 4 wheel before even leaving the driveway, but we just haven't been getting the stuff. Global warming maybe? I'll keep hoping for some serious snow, maybe when the kids are finished with school I'll move north. DF
