I'll apoligize in advance since I know your talking aobut the Fords, but I got a ticket on the portable scales for hauling 14000 lbs in my 69 C-30 with a 292 6 banger. It pulled fine but it didn't want to stop. The GVW was 10K but I registered it for 6K, they weren't amused. :-)
I think the worst I ever did was 4-3000 lb transformer pads on a tri-axle trailer behind my 79 F-150 300 4 spd. That one didn't want to stop either.
i hauled some railroad ties for a home project once, just hauled em in the bed and the truck's wqeight was 9700, the truck alone only weighed 4800... i went 30 miles with no problems from the 390/ np 435.. but the rags for tires i had on made for a pretty squirrelly trip.. i got another number for you with my powerstroke/ 6 speed but it was on a bet and not the smartest trip i've ever made....lol 183 miles with a combined truck and trailer weight of 27,140 lbs... had to haul a firetruck loaded on a flatbed for my dad who just knew a ford couldn't make it... i won the bet.
I've hauled 4200lbs of gravel in the back of my 76 F250 4x4 390 C6 with a Dana70 in the rear. I also used that truck to pull a Swift Transportation tractor trailer out of a ditch in 4low, and I pulled a Dresser TD7 dozer on a 3 axle trailer. My dad and I used the 97 F350 PSD and tandem axle trailer to haul scrap once, the gross weight was 17,500 the first load and 23,000 the 2nd load.
Edit: I use the 76 to haul hay a few times a month, 20 bales in the truck and 80 on the trailer. I've never weighed it though.

My 76 F250, with 1 ton suspension, Explorer Camper Special, with a slightly modded 460 and Dana 60 (4:10 rear) and dual gas tanks once set an idiocy record for towing across Canada. The names are being with held to protect the mentally handicapped. The previous owner decided that he wanted to go racing in Ontario with his Late Model tube chassis Camaro and called me to see if I would help him prep the car and provide a shop to run it out of. So he borrowed the only trailer he could, an old enclosed (1/4" plywood body) all steel frame, dual wide five axle trailer. He lived in Vancouver, so this trailer was completely waterlogged, the 3/4" plywood floor was so soft that you had to make sure that the car was tied down on the steel cross ribbing or it could fall through.
The car was a 2,700 lb car, it came with 3 other rear ends 3 sets of wheels, spare brake calipers, some engine parts, 2 transmissions, a spare Firebird body and extra spare odds and ends. He loaded up and as he didn't want the hassles of crossing down into the U.s. for a flatter run through Montana he ran the Northern route over the Rockies, through Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg and around the top side of Superior. Oddly enough he said that the truck luugged a ton going over the Rockies, through Rogers Pass. Oh yeah did I mention that the trailer didn't have any brakes!!!!!! Made it to Calgary and popped an engine mount pulling away from a light. Stopped and chained down the motor. Built up speed going across Saskatchewan, but when he exceeded 70 mph the winds caused the 4x8 sheets of plywood to start flapping loose and flying off the trailer. He stopped and tried to Racer Tape the panels on, but after the 3rd or 4th time he just decided to let the panels rip.
Anyways, he stopped just outside Winnipeg at an abandoned Weigh Scales and weighed the setup, 15,100 lbs! Remember this is after loosing a ton of 4x8 sheets of plywood. He had to stop in Winnipeg to buy a number of tiedowns to hold down the boxes and parts that were rolling loose. He finally pulled into Toronto and when he pulled down my street, my wife shreiked what the F$#* is that ugly thing. I looked out and all that was left on the trailer was the front trailer panel, the rear door/ ramp, the wall and roof 1x1 steel framing and 4 of the 5 floor plywoods.
My buddy told me that he averaged 8 1/2 mpg on the trip, which was only 1/2 a mpg less than he normally got and he did the whole trip in just under 115 hours total.
Best part was that I got the car running, repaired the truck, hid the trailer 30 miles away and he came back out to Toronto in the fall and towed the whole thing back to B.C.. Oh man, what we did when we were young.
i regularly tow a 38 foot tri-axle enclosed racecar trailer.fully loaded ,car,tools power generator,racefuel,spare parts,spare slicks,food ,clothes,etc.just about 12000lbs.truck is happy when its pullin.74 dually 4x4,428 SCJ,dana 60 front,dana 70 rear,np 435,205 t case.im not hard on the drive train,nice and smooth on the clutch an throttle.

In my old 75 F100, I had 4200 lbs of blue chip gravel in the bed for about 10 or 15 miles. Even with the 77 F150 rear springs, the axle was sitting on the rubber frame snubbers!!!

4,100 lbs in the bed of a 73 f 250 Trailer Special
390 cid (370 hp) 4 speed automatic, dana 60 LS axle w/3.54 gears and overload springs. Went 60 miles, didn't dip much and tracked pretty straight except when I hit ruts on the highway. Was not short on power and still got 9mpg. Could have towed a hefty trailer and still done fine. Braking was no problem with those monster dual piston caliper disc brakes in the front. Fords build them right!
Hauled 3900 lbs of wet lumber in the bed of my 73 F-250 Camper Special 4x2, and unloaded it the same day. Curb weight is 5150 lbs with me in it and both tanks full. GVW is 7500. Total weight that day was just over 9,000 . . .
Wow 73F250...you did some digging for this one, but since it's revived I'll reply. The max I ever did was completely illegal and not good for the truck...but my dad was using the flatbed for his business. I hauled a 3 ton die block in my bed to Freitliner, while towing another 3.5 tons of various steel. For a grand total of 13,000 pounds towed plus a roughly 6,500 pound truck. It's a 77 250 4by, it has a moderately built 400 with a nice C6 behind it.

how about 11,700 total weight on my 77 f150 4x4 sb NP435,205 hauled scrap steel from a machine shop. the going was fine but had to plan the stops. And yes it had an absurd number of leaf springs in rear. No block just all leaf. A friend i had growing up had a 79 6cyl 4spd 4x4 F150 that he converted to a wrecker and i saw him haul a full size school bus about 10 miles. after all was said and done he bent both rear axle shafts and the housing.
My 77 150 has had WAY more wet oak in it than it should have had, but did just dandy, now my 66 just took a trip to the scrap yard to get rid of a 78 3/4 van and some copper, just about 120# short of 11,000 GVW! And that was form up here in the mtns, down to south Fresno.
