The speed 0-meter ends for both years are the same on the both ends, the 1989 F150 2wd 5 speed speed o-meter cable is 10 inches shorter. I went back to the scrap yard and found a 1990 F150 2wd w/5 speed trans and observed the speed o-meter cable run down the inside of the truck and out the cab about 8 inches below the brake pedal.
The 5 speed transmission I purchased has this adapter for cruise control attached to the transmission where the speed o-meter cable mounts. There was a difference for the speed o-meter cable end where it attaches to the transmission for the 1989 F150 w/cruise, 5 speed trans.
In conclusion, the old speed o-meter cable should work once I remove the adapter for cruise control which attaches to the transmission where the speed o-meter cable mounts.
I will check and verify this weekend.
