Question Check Engine light

Hi y,all. I have a 2000 F-150, 4X4 with a 4.2 V6. Today while my wife was driving it the check engine light came on. Oil pressure is good, no over heat, nothing noticable. I just crossed 52,000 miles. On some other vehicles I have owned the CE light came on at mileage "markers" in the system. Could this be one of those? Thanks for the help!! Ed.

Sorry, no mileage markers. Just go to autozone or advance and they'll pull the codes for you. You might want to write them down and bring them back here before you listen to them and buy anything.

No the check engine light does not come on at any certain mileage interval. If you will take it to AutoZone and have them do a free scan, get your code from them, then post it here we will help you diagnose it.

Was the trucks fuel tank just filled? If so, was the cap on correctly? Double check this, as this is one of the most common causes of triggering the CEL. I would also recommend looking for one of those cheapo code readers on Ebay. I bought one for $50 a while back, and it paid for itself the first time I used it. I had to use it again yesterday after fixing a broken elbow on the line to the evaporative canister on the Crown Vic. Mine automatically resets the computer after extracting the codes.

If you do a search in the forum here you'll find lots of info on the P0401. The common causes are a bad DPFE sensor or plugged EGR ports in the intake manifold.
