Very good question.... anytime you weld metals of different alloys together, theres possibility of rust along the seam. I'm not an expert, but here's my humble recommendation...
For the inside, where you can't see the seam, use a zinc compound. Its what auto companies use on their panels because it protects the metal even when its scratched.
For the exterior, prime it immediately with an "etching primer", don't use cheap primer for this. Paint it ASAP, even if its just a temporary coating of spray paint.
