Took one of my motors apart today - it is a capacitor, when it charges it stops the current flow. Check your basic electronics book....

Howdy, I subscribed to this thread a while back and noticed it's helped out quite a few. I am the original founder of the PDL fix. Yep. It's me in the flesh errrr, data/typing/words. Some were wondering who to give rep points to. I'll take some if you're givin', but so many other's have added to the original fix that all who have contributed deserve em'. I discovered this fix all the way back in 2005 and am glad to see it has evolved and helped so many. I just toasted my transmission this weekend and found ALL of the information needed to make a decision on how to approach the fix replacement. Just a hearty "Thanks" to all who contribute. I truly realize what a valuable tool this forum is. This is a link to the original thread. I posted it in the 7.3 forum.

Helped a buddy of mine fix one of his locks on his 350 PSD, works great. One tip, don't have to many beers while removing...

Finished this fix up yesterday. Found my passenger front door had already had the door lock actuator replaced with the newer model so I left it alone for now as its working fine. The other three are now fully functional for the first time since Ive had it.

Thanks much.

None of my locks work and my key fob will not make them work ether, no clicking in the doors at all, also my auto on headlights doesn't work and the door ajar light is always on. Is this all controled by the door lock acuator?

The key fob must be linked to the car following the procedure in the owners manual. The batteries might be dead also.

, also my auto on headlights doesn't work

Headlights are not connected to the door lock actuator

and the door ajar light is always on. Is this all controled by the door lock acuator?

YES

But do the doors lock with the lock/unlock button?

I bought a new door switch yesterday and have tryed it on 3 of the 4 doors last night, the only door i have not tryed it on was the drivers side rear door, when i try the new switch do i have to actually put it in the door latch mechinizum (?) to make a ground or can i just plug it in to the wirering? Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!

Is there power to the driver door lock switch? If not you will have to check the owners manual for fuses.

Should there be power all the time or only when you hit the lock button? I will look at the fuses, i have looked before, thats where i started. The funny thing is that all this started at the same time so i thought it was related but maybe not!

Man what an awesome fix. I tried it last night thinking it wasn't going to work. I fixed the passenger side door on my truck thinking if it died it'd be no big deal. Anyway I put it all back together and it worked like a champ I'll do the rest as I get time. Thanks a Million to all the posters, and the great additions

YES one wire to the lock switch should have power all the time unless yours is switched, then the key would have to be on. Don't know which truck you have as you didn't give specs.

My motors are toast, melted. So I was looking for part #'s and found the word Johnson. I thought it would be awsome to find new motors intead of the whole actuator so I phoned my buddy who works for Johnson Controlls and it is one their motors. He has no idea how to get a hold of the auto devision, its a huge company, and he works up here in Canada. Just thought somebody might know someone out there...
