If you had read this entire thread before you tried the fix, you wouldn't be taking it apart again. It's covered in the text why your motor is now running backwards.

You didn't put the motor in upside-down, you assembled the end cap on the motor 180 degrees out of alignment. You now have to take the motor completely apart again.

Just wanted to give an expereince of mine today while working on the actuator. I couldn't get the 3 Torx screws out to remove the latch. I stripped the Torx heads out. My neighbor, a body shop guy, came over and said they have to use heat to get them out. Sure enough, some propane torch heat and they backed out. The bolts had Blue Loctite on them.

I just finished the actuator fix on my 2000 f150, and both work perfect.

just wanted to post up another "thanks" I had done my drivers door on my '00 X a few months ago, then my front passenger door started crapping out. This weekend I ended up doing that one and the rear doors all in less than 2 hours total. All are working like new now

thanks again

Okay now. I think I have. It was really easy to take apart and do the fix. Should be able to take the top off and spin it relatively easy and very short time. Thanks for your help on the backwards control system.

Hey guys, just a quick question before I tear into mine. I am assuming that the actuators in the 97-03 F-150s are the same and that the procedure should be basically the same?

Thanks guys,
Gabe

To update my ratcheting sound. I took the old actuator apart, #8 Torx. The gear on the motor shaft had stripped teeth where the swing out engaging mechanism is. I switched ends of the gear and it should work. I bought a new one before i tore into it. I have an passenger side extra now i guess.

Don't think I would recommend starting and not finishing. You have to take everything that latches loose and if you were able to get it latched, it would be a pain in the a$$ to open the door from the inside with everything unhooked. It shouldn't that more than 1 to 1 1/2 hours, tops. My first one was about an hour and I had plenty of other stuff going on. Did it on a family camping trip with limited tools and nieces and nephews wanting to see and help with everything I did.

Edit: Forgot the door handle part. I choose not to remove the outside door handle and it did make unhooking and hooking a bit tougher but still wasn't bad. Others seem to think removing the handle is the best. So it is your choice.

^^^^ I agree. When I did mine it only took about an hour and following the great instruction on this site everything went as planned.

Good to see another Barry out there

If you have handy, long and not too thick fingers, you should be ok W/O taking the handle off.
It took me 2.5 hours to do all the four doors.
In 100*F heat, 1 hour went with the first door, figuring it out and getting all the right tools, drills and screws etc.
The rest then went like 30 min each, even with the beer breaks every 5 min.
=> So you need sixback per each door? No, I think I had one beer per door.
