Does anyone know of a good source for parts (new or used) for truck parts in the Memphis area (Memphis, Millington, etc...)? I just went through a long search for an input bearing retainer for my truck and finally found one at Truck Parts Specialists over on Brooks road, but they are way overpriced. I had to buy it because I had to have it and was in a hurry, but I want a source I can go to in the future.

I have just purchased a 1982 F-250 and am doing some work on it to get it back on the road, so will be needing parts...

You looking for stock, off road, hotrod, or all of the above?

 

This really isn't an offroad truck, so mainly stock with a few performance parts thrown in for good measure...

 

New parts...probably the main NAPA on Stage Rd. As for used parts, I always go to the LKQ salvage yard on Mitchell. There is a truck only junkyard on Fite Rd. at Hwy 51 there in Millington, right across from Dupont.

I'd save NAPA as a last resort, because of the prices. But when you really have to find something - they are good!

Somewhere around here is an offroad and 4X4 place that's got a lot of good stuff. I can't remember what it's called though.

A fun place to check out is up toward Covington on the right as you go up 51. It's mainly BIG trucks, but you can find all sorts of goodies there. Easy to spot - there's almost a quarter mile of semi's lined up in the front of the place.

You can get train horn kits there for around two hundred fifty smackers, or if you REALLY want a great set of mirrors for towing, they'll pull them right off of a Peterbuilt for Ya...

Wandering around the main shop storefront I saw bins filled with nuts, bolts, line fittings, lights, reflectors, and just tons of stuff. New, used, you name it

 

Just what I need! a F-250 with Peterbilt mirrors, and Kenworth wheels! Throw in a Mack hood ornament, and I'll be set!

Seriously, though... I will check it out since I am up that way fairly often on my way to Halls/Nankipoo... I usually bypass that area of 51 and get on 51 in covington, but I'll have to swing by there...

I also seem to recall a place on 51, on the left as you are going north that has a lot of truck beds lined up on racks right by the road, too...

btw... Greywolf is a name I have used online since way back in 1985, when 300 baud was kickin...

 

The four wheel drive place is probably John Wall's on Hwy 64 in Arlington. As for LKQ, it's at 966 W. Mitchell road. It's a really clean yard, and they have everything sorted by make.

If memory serves me, the LKQ used to be Pull-A-Part. Mitchell is in the Brooks Road/3rd street area I think.

Does LKQ operate this yard like Pull-A-Part did or like there yard in Marion, AR?

 

Winchester turns into Mitchell road. The easiest way to get there is to take third like you're going to Tunica, and turn right on Mitchell. About two miles down the road on the right hand side is LKQ. They used to be Pull A Part/C&W (the same lady [Wanda Catt] has owned all of the yards) you can wander the yard, and the prices are flat fee. So, an engine costs 249 no matter what it came from.

Do you know if you have to pull everything yourself, or will they pull it for you if you want? Most of the time I don't mind pulling it, especially if the money savings is pretty good, but there are times when it would be nice if they would pull it for you.

 

I also want to tell everyone about a good experience I had today with Truck Parts Specialists over on Brooks Rd.

I purchased a input bearing for a T-18 from drivetrain.com, and I ordered the wrong bearing. The cost of shipping the bearing back to them would have been almost as much as the bearing costed. However, I talked to Jerry over at Truck Parts Specialists, and explained what happened, and he told me that he would swap the bearing for me, even though I purchased it elsewhere. What would have been a loss for me, and having a bearing sitting here being a paperweight ended up being a really good experience.

Not very many places would do something like that nowdays.

Heard about it when I first got home, but never been to it.

 

I know where John Walls is.. they are out on hwy 64 between Lakeland and Eads. I've never been there, but called them a few times looking for parts. They were very helpful, they didn't have the parts I needed, but gave me names of places that would have them. That's where I learned about Truck Parts Specialists over on Brooks Rd., and Memphis Bearing over on Winchester.

Which reminds me... if you nead bearings, check with Memphis Bearing ((901) 365-4893) first. They have really good prices, and carry just about any bearing you could want. I had to get mine over at TPS because Memphis Bearing had just sold the last one of the bearings I needed. If I had called them a day earlier, they would have had it, for about $10 less than TPS.
