More Competition For Mustang-2008 Dodge Challenger
Go to www.allpar.com and they have pictures of the 2008 Dodge Challenger. Chrysler again going with the retro look with Challenger looking quite a bit like it's original predecessor from the muscle car era. Even the interior loks like it did back then complete with the pistol grip shift handle.

I do like the looks but C&D is full of it. 4.5 sec 0-60, 13 sec in the quarter, unlikely. Lets break it down. This car wieghs 4100 pounds has 425hp and 420ft lbs of torque. The C6 Vette wieghs 3100 pounds has 400hp and 400ft lbs of torque. 0-60 times are about 4.5sec and the quarter is done in 12.5.
Every 100 lbs is worth .1 of a second in the qtr. 25hp is not going to make that up. IMO I think the Challenger is going to be much closer in time to the Mustang GT. A bit faster but probably but it gives up 600 pounds. The GT500 is going to bury it.
Oh did I mention the gas mileage sucks.

Anyway, I don't know why people always keep mentioning 6.1L only when they're talking about Challenger. It concept. They build one for Detroit Auto Show, and of course, its gonna have best engine they can offer. 2005 Mustang concept had supercharged V8 and 400 hp, but 400-hp production model doesn't exist. No doubt that Challenger will have 6.1L, but there will also be at least 1 more V8 (5.7L) and base V6 (3.5L).

Seroiously, we are talking about a vehicle taht isn't built yet. If the Challenger weighs near the mustang, then it will be competition for the GT500.

(source: HEMMING's MUSCLE MACHINES 10/05) I have seen 1/4 mile times for the GT mustang in the high 13 sec area. so the GT should be no match for the 300, let alone the challenger. You caould put one againsed the srt4 neon though, as they are almost the same in the 1/4 mile.
