Governer on F600 Carb

Can I disconnect the governor on the 2 barrel carb on the 370 in my 1979 F600? Something is taking over control of the carb during warm up and it's shutting down. What's the governor for anyhow?

The governor limits the RPM of the engine which in turn limits the maximum speed. I am not sure what the reason for it is; possibly to keep the driver from over-revving the engine between shifting or to keep the driver from exceeding the speed limit. Either way, it probably helps reduce operating costs in repair, gasoline, and accidents.

I doubt the governor would be adjusted to back off throttle much lower than 3000 RPM, so I don't believe it would be the cause of it dying at startup. I would check out the choke operation first, especially if the governor otherwise operates normally.
