We bought my neighbor's 1999 F150 this past summer ... and he didn't have any remote entry keyfobs to give us (he bought the truck from National Car Rental). Since I ASSUMED that the truck was equipped with remote entry (the owner's manual specifically said it was), I bought 2 remotes off of eBay. But when I attempted to program the remotes, there was no response from turning the key from off to on and back 8 times!

So I asked the local Ford dealer ... "where is the remote entry receiver located on a 1999 F150 truck?" (thinking I could at least check to see if it was there) ... and they told me they would have to hook the truck up to their computer to determine if it was equipped for remote entry.

Does this sound correct? Or does the dealer just want to charge me a hour's labor to (possibly) tell me my truck doesn't have a receiver for the remote entry feature?

If the truck is NOT equipped for remote entry, I suspect that the dealer's price for installing whatever might be missing would be more than having an aftermarket unit installed ... and suggestions?

 

Owners manuels cover all trim levels and are not vehicle specific, so I doubt that yours specifacally states that your particular truck has keyless entry. Considering that the truck was originally a rental vehicle and rental companys tend to purchase vehicles as cheaply as possible, I also doubt that yours is equipped with keyless entry. What is the trim level of your truck (XL, XLT)? My owners manuel for my 97 XL also has pictures and explanations on how to use the key fob and what not but being that my truck is an XL I automatically knew that I did not have keyless entry.

 

It's an "XLT 4X2 SUPERCAB STYLESIDE" ... and the owner's manual states "Your vehicle is equipped with a remote entry system ..." (doesn't say "if equipped" or "optional"!).
