Lodging in Memphis area?

Lodging in Memphis area?
It looks like I'll be taking a ride south in the next few weeks, with a 1-night stay around the Memphis area. I'll be driving a brand-new truck that's worth a fair amount of change, and I've never been in Tennessee before. I want to make sure I stay at a motel in a decent area, where I won't have to worry about this rig overnight. I'm not looking for a palace, but a clean room with a comfortable bed is a must. (If it was on the north or northeast side of Memphis, that would be great, as I'm not looking forward to the 15-hour ride from Rochester to downtown Memphis. Cutting an hour off of that just might make the difference between me falling asleep at the wheel!)
If anyone here could recommend a few good motels, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm thinking one that sits between a police station and a 24-hour security-camera store should be just fine... Thanks in advance,
Jeff Clark

I would say any decent sized hotel in Millington. Take the 385 to highway 51, head north and keep your eyes peeled. I'm not real familiar with the hotels in the area, there's an Admiralty or something like that that is fair sized, and there really isn't a lot of crime in the area.
Downtown Memphis is a whole 'nuther story. The diners have signs on the coat racks saying "Watch your hat, and coat, and line of fire"

There is a hotel right at the I-40 and Hwy 64 (Bartlett exit - very NE section of the metro area). It seems to be a nice place in a nice area - Cordova/Bartlett. There are many highline resturants in the area as well as the Wolfchase Galleria Mall if the missus is with you. There is also a major Ford dealership (along with about every other vehicle on the planet) just down hwy 64 if you were in need.
This hotel has changed names a few times so I can't remember the "brand" right now. If you are interested, I'll check it out more.

Thanks, guys- I really appreciate all the suggestions. That Best Western in Bartlett is looking real good, but it was also suggested that I try one of the hotels in Tunica, MS, near the casinos. There's a Best Western on Casino Strip Blvd; supposed to be a nice area- can anyone confirm? It's only about 45 minutes south of Bartlett, according to MapQuest. Then again, that extra 45 minutes, at the end of a VERY long day for me, could be a real killer.

The casinos are a long drive from Bartlett. Plus I'd feel safer in Bartlett. The traffic on Highway 61 to the casinos is always heavy & you must go through a bad section of south Memphis to get to the casinos. I know I've worked in this area & had to keep my tool trailor locked down & still had stuff stolen. I'd get a room on the east side like the Best Western or one nearer the mall in the same area.

45 minites from Bartlett to the casinos is a stretch. If you are coming from the east, its at least 1 hour. There are 2 major construction areas on the Memphis interstates right now. The signs for I40 will take you aroind the north side of town (we call the north loop). I the midtown area of Memphis just where I40 takes a right turn to head into Arkansas there is much construction (several bridges and lane additions). Sometimes it takes 30 minutes just to get thru this 2 mile stretch. Until lately I have been instructing most nonresidents to take the south loop (I240 - signs point to Jackson, MS). This is a bit longer as the crow flies and takes the old bridge (I55) across the Mississippi River (I mean early 1900s old). Just a few weeks ago some bridge work was started on that loop as well. Sometimes it is backed up as well, although I think it is still the best route, especially very early or late. There is a TN Highway 800# that I might be able to get if you think it will help.
