How to plug D3VE head egr ports?
Both the front and rears of these heads have an EGR hole that's approx 5/8". The fronts are already plugged by the factory, but I want to remove the plumbing for the egr and plug the holes. The fronts look like they're plugged with freeze plugs, so I tried 5/8" freeze plugs, but they're too loose. Can anyone suggest what I can use to do this?
Also, the motor I'm installing is missing one of the transmission alignment dowels. Is this a dealer only item, or will any parts store carry this?

I forgot I have a junk 460 block sitting out in the junkpile and just took a look at it and was able to use vice grips to get the dowels out of that one, so that problem is solved. I also found a post stating to tap the hole with 1/4" npt and then just use a pipe plug, so I'm heading out to the hardware store right now. Thanks!

You don't have to tap anything.
You can go to your local NAPA and tell them you want thermactor port, cap plugs for your 460 heads. They tap right in like a freeze plug. They are an oddball size. You will see the same plugs in the front of the heads in the same spot.
And while you are at it get 4 and put new ones in the front of the heads as well. They rust out and will leak exhaust.
Matter of fact this the part number from a box of them I bought a couple years ago.
Clevite # 219-2188.
My NAPA store did not have them on the shelf and had to order them, so I had to buy a box of 8 or so plugs. They should be able to cross something with this number.

Engine Head EGR Hole Plugs
Thanks for the info. Went to NAPA and THEY HAD THEM!!! $0.99 ea. god I love NAPA.
So, I have read several threads on how to do this. Some say clean out the carbon and fill with hi-temp RTV, some say to fill the holes with steel rod, etc., etc. What is the best method? The two rear facing holes are completely filled with carbon. The front right has one of these caps already installed from the factory, which I am going to replace. The front left also has one installed, but has a hole corroded through it. Basically going to put new plugs in all fours holes, just need to know the best preps before I do this.
Thanks in advance!!
