Unhappy Dark Stone easily scratched

Hi,

I have an '06 SC SB Lariat FX4 in Dark Stone.

I have not waxed it yet but noticed several noticable scratched already. One on the drivers side beside the fuel door where I was standing in the bed washing the roof. The rubber water hose left several white looking scratches. The passenger door is already showing some scratches as well. The bed is really scratching from only having some luggage put in it.

Seems that it should be much harder to scratch than this. Only had it a month.

Anyone else have this problem?

Any waxes or anything I should use to help protect the finish?

Thanks

Some colors show scratches more. Dark ones. Its only a scratch in the clear coat. Use some wax and they will come out real easy. Nothing protects from scratches. Unless you park the truck and how much fun would that be...

The scratches on the side of the bed will happen to any truck if you route the water hose to the side. Next time bring the water hose from the rear with the tailgate down.

It typically isn't a scratch unless your fingernail can catch it. You'll see scuffs in the clear coat easier on dark colored vehicles. Waxing or a ***very*** light polishing compound should take it out.

I can catch my fingernail in them. Not badly but enough to feel it. I will try waxing it in the next couple of days and see if that takes it out. I hate to use polishing compound on a brand new truck!

Get some Scratch-X and buffer and those little nicks are history. Just be careful not to burn the paint. You do have to get it warm to smooth it out, but not too much.

My honest opinions about the scratches is its all in a days work of a superduty. I can understand why your a little upset since its a brand new truck but if you bought the truck to use for work, it will get scratched up. Go with what everyone else recommends and as for the bed, your best bet would probably be a spray-in-liner since the paint in the bed will get ruined in no time.

Yamahonda41, I know how you feel. I guarded my religiously until this fall when I loaded my Cub Cadet in the back to take to the shop and accidentially caught the right rear taillight with the grass chute and chiped the red lense. Then on the way back home I didn't get it tied down tight and it rolled forward and hit the front of the bed. Now I have a nice bow in the front!

I figured "oh well, I bought it to haul and tow so that's what happens!"

Yeah I know it' gonna happen sooner or later. I just wish it had been later! Had I know they would show this bad I might have chosen another color. I like the Dark Stone but it's going to look bad in no time at this rate.

I just traded my 2003 F150 SC that was grey and did not show scratches hardly at all. It had 60k miles and only recently got scratches enough to see.

Yeah, grey/silver is the best coat you can have on a truck. Hides dirt and scratches very well. I think the worst color for a vehicle is black. My exgirlfriend had a black 04' Dodge Ram 1500 and it only looked good after a wash and wax.

Best color I have found on a truck was WHITE, always looks clean... just couldn't get a decent black interior except in the Harley Edition (Sport XLT option felt like vinyl). So I too am plagued with the panic attacks on how light scratches appear out of no where on my True Blue Hog. This is suppose to be a work/camping truck... not a show truck! Oh well... best get out the ScratchX and Meguiars Gold wax... there goes another 4 hours.

I really do like that Dark Stone color and was my first choice but it was not available in the Sport Package... just the Dark Shadow Gray, which my wife said looks like "shinny primer". Got to please the wifey too!

The darker the color, the more likely it is to show scratches. And, they only get worse if you wax the truck before rubbing them out; the light-colored wax gets into the scratch and just highlights it even more. If you want a practical color, go with a 2-tone that has white on top, and a darker color (gray or dark blue, for example) along the rockers. White is generally easy to keep clean if it's up away from road dirt, it will keep the cab cooler in summer, and the dark color along the bottom will hide mud, road tar, etc...

I have black and had a couple of scratches already. I find that Miguires (sp??) Tech wax really works well.

my 04 4x4 which is red is so bad i'm starting to think the clear coat is faulty, i can take my finger with just light pressure on a clean truck with my finger slightly wet and scratch the clear coat really bad, i have tried waxing[makes it worse] i have tried scratch out, makes it worse, i think just hand washing also puts scratches in it that you can see i can't figure out how it can be so soft.

like stated earlier. the darker the color-the easier scratches will show. silver and white are the best to hide imperfections. i went with silver the last two vehicles. it may be the most popular color now- but i am glad i went that route!
