Tricky Oil Gauge

Tricky Oil Gauge
All,
I've got a 76 F100 Custom 302/C-6 (small block). I've built the motor myself and used plumber's pipes to rig up an oil sending unit for a gauge. When I start up in the morning the gauge reads on the high side. After reaching temperature it calms down and reads slightly below halfway. At temp and at highway speed it reads "0" psi. It has done this for 12 years. I tried changing the sending unit and it helped for short periods of time (1 week). Then back to the same symptom. Has anyone ever seen this before? I noticed that the factory uses a hefty piece of cast iron to mount the sending unit. Are these sending units suspectable to vibration?
Good luck, Have Fun,
KingFisher

I hope you aren't using plumber tape on the threads.
There is a proper, water tight/oil tight sealing compound that conducts current to use instead, that's available at auto stores.
