Smile Running Sirius wires to positive battery cable and ground.

Thanks to Matt for his advice on the Sirius antenna. Now my question is, where is their an access hole in the firewall to run wires to the battery? I mounted my Sirius tuner in the little cubby hole inside the glove box and to the right. I think the wires are just long enough to reach the battery if i can run a straight line, but i can't find a place on the firewall. I looked under the carpet on the front passanger side near the fuel reset and rubber mat that covers the firewall but couldn't locate a hole. Any advice. My truck is a 1999 F-150 super cab. Thanks to all.

Why run it all the way to the battery? Why not just use the exisiting "always hot" wire going to the radio?

Yea, you need a cheap test light to find you a good sourse under the dash. Going through the firewall on the pass side (with all the heat n ac ducting) is almost impossable.

btw, you can use anything that lites up on 12v as a test light...

Red face

According to my Sirius satellite tuner instuction book, it says to run one wire to the positive cable and one to ground from the tuner, then the head unit itself could be wired either as switched or constant{constant to maintain clock setting} and the Sirius tuner had to go directly to the battery to complete the circuit. I read that wiring the radio as a constant source was a drain on the battery, but if it is minimal, then maybe i'll wire it constant.

When I recently installed my XM system I found a way through behind the right floor panel. If you take the panel off and look in the right door jamb you should find a grommet and an opening to get you up toward the battery.

Good luck.

SRB1194-Do you also have a 1999 f-150.? If not, i wonder if the grommet is in a different place. I'll check it out. Thanks.

You can run it out through the kick panel and up through the fender, but there a big vacume box in the way up inside that fender, so good luck.

How much power do one of those things pull, I thought you could plug them into the lighter. The only thing I've ever run straight to the battery is an amp for the sound system.

Rob,

I actually have a '98 F-150. You should be able to see the grommet that I am referring to in the door jamb near where the wires go to the door assembly.

Yeah, the FM wireless is so good on these I'd never hard wire one... Lots of work for no gain.

I have a 2000 and ran my power wire thru the grommet above the brake pedal & then push the wire thru the wire holder at the back of the fire wall to get it to the other side.
