Grr

A friend of mine's car started smoking in the engine bay. He took it to Pep-Boys and they ran a "diagnostics" and told him the engine was blown and he had to have it replaced/rebuilt. I called BS. Had him take it to my mechanic. There was a pin sized hole in the radiator hose so it was spraying coolant on the engine and causing the smoke. . Sorry if anyone here works there but in my opinion, PEP-BOYS SUCKS. How many people have they ripped off doing that crap.

My brother in law, sister, mother and nephew were in RI (up from NC) and heading to FL last July. Expedition died on em. Pep-Boys said it needed a Alternator, over $300. They left RI and were on a freeway just outside NYC when it died again. Had to pay for a tow and taxi to nearest Pep-Boys, $130. They said it needed a new battery, $80. They made it as far as VA when guess what, It died again, and they had a cruise ship to make in FL (No refund). So I drive 4 hrs to switch with them. I rasie the hood and in less than 2 minutes find that little relay on the fire wall blown, jury rig it in another 2 minutes and their back on their way with no more problems, being the hero, $priceless....

Pep-boys, to their credit did refund everything plus tow, taxi and my gas.

How sad that I am so shocked that a company actually owned up to a mistake and made it right!

I thought pep boys did everything for nothing!! Maybe working at a reputable dealership and knowing my customers for 20+ years has its advantages! I never screw anyone, doesn't mean I've never made a mistake just owned up to them makes customers respect you!

I guess this could have just been a mistake. I would like to know what evidence they found to support that the engine was toast. And I plan on asking them.
