No worries Red, like Trouble says; go to Radio Shack and get the 68 ohm resistor ( if thats the one that fell out), and just touch up the solder joints on the remaining "trouble chips" as stated in the link I sent you and you'll be good to go.

 

Once again Miescha proves to be the master of the overhead console repair. I used the procedure he decribed and it has worked flawlessly since December. Thanks Miescha and I left you some rep points for the detailed instructions.

 

I'm having this issue too. The guy i bought the truck from tried to do the repair, used too much solder, and left it plugged in that way for a long time. I just took it out now which is months later, and it was pretty warm! Anyway, i don't know if other items are now fried, so i'd like to see if you do have any excess ones to get rid of that might be in a better state.

Excellent pics and details. I got my console apart and I have one chip that is gone, I assume burned off and one chip that is completely loose on one end, it is not unsoldered but has come loose. Either someone has tried to work on it and failed or it got hit by lightning or something. Do you know of anyone who I can send it in for repair? Thanks

 

Maybe try taking it to a TV/Radio repair shop, they may be able to solder the chips back on.

 

Thanks for the reply. I thought of that but I do not have the chips, 2 of them, to be re-installed. One of the chips is gone but the mounts which are soldered to the board are still there and the second has come loose from the mounts on on side as well. Also after looking at my display, it appears that on side of it is burned.
I contacted a Ford dealership and a replacement is $350.00. Was hoping that I could find someone who repairs those types of instruments.
The part number i need is F18Z25519C44-AAB (with temp) with number 10D898.
One other thing I thought was interesting is that the part number for most of information centers out there are "10D898". I used that number on a Yahoo search and got several hits on it which indicated they were auto information centers.

The chips are actually resistors. Either 62 or 68 ohm. They are flat, but you can buy cylindrical resistors at Radio Shack that will work. There is a post with pics that show where the resistors go on the board. The 620 is the 62 ohm, and the 680 is the 68 ohm. You can also buy a small soldering iron at Radio Shack and try the repair yourself.Iron is about $15.00 . A lot cheaper than $350.00.

 

Thanks for the reply. That was going to be my next step attempting to find a shop to fix it. On the board I have, I wonder if someone already tried to fix it. Several of the chips are white and I do not know what the ohms are. So I do not know if the previous owner tried to fix it on his own and failed.
I got real lucky though. I co-worker has a salvage yard and I asked him if he would look for one. He said that he probably did not have one. Talked to him a couple of days ago and said that his dad had a roll over truck with the message center intact. Just hope it works.
Do you have a chip or programmer in your 7.3? I installed a hypertech programmer in mine and it will not start very good under 35 degrees as it romps a lot. Under 30 it will not start period. I called Hypertech and they could not give me a reason. I have had my truck checked at Ford without the programmer installed and it did not show any codes. I thought that the throttle sensor might be bad or the oil pump is leaking off loosing pressure for start up. Would think that it would start rough with or without the programmer installed. Any ideas???

 

I would try rewriting this other issue as a new topic/ thread. I do not have any chips or programmer on my rig. There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum, choose an eye catching title and you'll get plenty of responses. You're one lucky dude to have a hook-up in the salvage Biz..

 

I have had this problem before. I removed the little circuit board that is in the console and there was a little resistor in the circuit bord that needed to be soldered back onto the board. I havent had any problems with it since.

 

You are briliant MIESCHA. Less than 30 minutes to fix and it saved me hundreds. Boy am I glad I found this web site. Thank you soooo much, you rock. .

 

I followed the directions that Miescha posted and they are awesome, THANK YOU. I found that I am missing the chip closest to the plug in. How do I find out which resistor I need. I could not find the missing one anywhere so I have no idea. There is a 680 next to the empty spot.

 

I was getting ready to do a search to fix this problem this morning, when I found this thread. I went out and found a loose chip, broke out the soldering iron and corrected it. Thanks.

 

I have the Hypertech chip in mine and I also had the cold start problem! I even installed a heavy duty block heater ! The problem was it needed a new glow plug relay! Simple fix and will start at any temp now!! Bet that is your problem to!
