Smile 1988 E-350 Cabriolet

This truck was designed to pull a 5th wheel camper or trailer. I bought it to restore and pull a hot shot trailer with. It had an exhaust leak when I bought it which I thought would be no problem. I have since found out that the 460 had a problem busting exhaust manifold bolts or cracking the manifold. I found that it had 3 busted bolts on one side and 2 on the other. I had to pull the heads to get the busted bolts out and when I put it back together I do not want to have to do it all over again. I wonder if there is anyone out there that has had this problem with the 460 and what they did to fix the problem. You can e-mail me at DGMC1979@woh.rr.com Any help will be very much appreciated! Thanks Don! ()) ())

Replace them with ARP stainless 12 pt bolts. They come in packs of 5. You will need 3 sizes, I don't remember what they are. When you have all of them out measure them and call summit. They will have them.

It came from the factory with stainless bolts. We were thinking that stainless was just too hard and might have been part of the problem. Do you think if we put a copper exhaust manifold gasket in there to give a little room for expansion and contraction. Let me know what you think. It is so hard to do any thing in that van we want all the input we can get. Thanks ()) ())

That sounds like a good idea. A lot of times the mannifold will crack also. I know the ARP bolts wouln't break. I would still go with the stainless ARP's.
