In need of a stepside bed!! Anyone have?

My uncle has an 81 ford he loves im about to take the 300 out and put in a 302 and get it running good, the body is another story. the bed rusted out real bad a while back and he trashed it(there was no saving it), so now i was hoping to get a bed before christmas but i dont see that happening, but i am still looking for one for a reasonable price in good condition. I will pick it up and take it off the truck, whatever is nesscarry.

Thank you.

I have one, but it's passable condition, some rusted-through spots. It would need some resto-work, but it is solid. However, being in RI, I would wait to find something closer to home. It's a shame though, as I have been trying to sell it, but now need to really get rid of it. Keep looking and I'm sure you'll find something. Check out local junkyards adn you may get lucky.

I certainly don't think it's worth it, given the distance and it's condition. If you want I could take some pics of it so you can see and judge for yourself. I can describe some of the rusted spots.

Some of the lip of the bed sides where it bolts to the wood is rotted out; there's a hole or two in the bedsides more or less by the bed floor; the wood strips are pretty rough, most would likely need to be replaced; the bed supports (underside) are not too bad, fairly solid, but there are some spots where it has rusted through some; the tailgate has some rust along the left side seam; general surface rust and pitting all over the inside of the bed and tailgate. The wood floor is a solid piece of plywood (I'm not sure what year they went with plywood instead of actual seperate pieces of solid wood, I think 83 or 84). It's a light blue color.

I bought it to replace a really rotted out bed on an 84 f150 that was wrecked 2weeks after the bed was delivered (before I did the swap). I then found an 82 f100 that I currently have, and the bed is generally very good condition, so I don't need the bed I got from the junkyard (someone took the trouble to rubberize the underside of it not too long after buying it). I would give the blue bed to you for nothing.

Send me a private message if you're still interested.

Ford never used a solid piece of plywood. My '86 has the sectional pieces too.
If it's one sheet, it's an aftermarket replacement.

I've seen three with the plywood floor, and owned 2 of those. They looked pretty original to me. Perhaps sometime after 82 it was on some, not on others....an option maybe? On an aftermarket supply for stepside bed parts, they make mention of the plywood being original on some of the 80's beds. Anybody else seen plywood floor beds on the stepsides?

Mine has the single wood also. I was told it was the original wood when I bought the truck. It's a '84

My 81 had the sectional pieces but had a piece of plywood on top causing it to rot more. I took the sectional pieces out (They were long gone) and replaced it with a single sheet of plywood. It doesn't look too bad for now, it will get changed if the truck stays around long enough. Does anyone have a pic of the "original" single piece?

Ol' Henery wouldn't arrainge two manufacturing lines for the low selling stepsides, If it's a solid piece, it's been "altered" after it left the factory.
Perhaps a universal "quick fix" for any damage to the bed?

Remember Ford didn't make an '87 Stepside....but there are some out there!
I have 2 '86 stepside 4x4's and a 81 stepside. All with the sectional strips. Parted out 4 others...and ain't seen a solid bed yet.

Ford didn't make an 87? Why have I seen some then? Was this an aftermarket conversion? The fender well openings match the 87-91 fender well opeings. I would love to have a 87 flareside.
