Oil leaking from the top of engine

I have a 92 explorer 4x4 manual, I was driving yesterday and smelling something thought nothing of it because the smell went away after about 2 min, but today my friend needed a jump and I noticed that a little oil had leaked from the top of the engine (right above the spark plugs) on the drivers side onto the exhaust manifold causing a little smoke and the smell. I was wondering what could of caused this is there a bed seal or something? it runs fine like it always have its just a very little amount of oil nothing severe at all the oil is still on the full line what would you guys suggest
