'04 What Alternator?

Okay, mine isn't broke, works fine, I just want a bigger one. Need to know what it is, (i.e. 1G, 2G 3G, etc). Here is the one I'm looking at, Powermaster PWM-47764, 200 amp, 2G.

Here's the reason. I already have a ton of lights front and back, I want to add two more to the sides, also going to put a removeable winch and a yellow top battery. Want to make sure it has plenty o' juice to run things.

Thanks,
BFR

It's at least a 3G and is most likely a 4G.

Fred? What ARE you.... ?

You have a 3G if I was you I would get a pro to rebuild the factory alt with a very good diode bridge and install good set of twin batterys and isolator. Run as many of the "accesories" off the second bat

Did they put 4G's, or 6G's for that matter, in the Superduty's yet?

Okay, now ya got me thinking. What's the difference between them? Case size, bolt patterns, hook-ups, pulleys, etc. Are any of them interchangeable?

1G - externally regulated - like all the Fords from pre '93 (or so) and back to when they switched over from "generators"
2G - internally regulated - I think from around '91-93 or so and up. something like 60-100 amps.
3G - what you have, internally regulated. Usually a "130" amp. newer tech.
4G - same thing, higher output? even newer tech.
6G - again, same thing, and even newer tech.
The "G" means "generation" as in 1st generation, 2nd, 3rd, etc.

Beyond that, a simple Google search will show lots of differences.

The case, I think, means nothing.

I do NOT recommend Powermaster. I had a 100 amp on my '76 F150 390FE 4x4 and on a 12 month warranty it lasted 13 months. One wire hookup...

I have never purchased this brand, but personally know several that use it...and nothing but good praise. Here is a URL...

http://www.mean-green.com/products/alternator.html

I was looking over...and saw that they make an alternator for the 2002-03 V10, but that might include more years. Would have to call...

Good luck...

Aww, Gee...I just need to know how one identifies which alternator they have. 99 F250 RC XLT Long bed, V10 5speed. I looked for a ident plate and didn't see one but might not have looked hard enough. Looks as though the norm is the 95 AH Alt and optionally a 130 AH Alt. I guess I probably have the standard one and can recall reading here that the 130 AH insides can be installed with a rebuild to upgrade? Is that the best way to go? What about harness changes from 95 to 130? And while I am asking about juice, what's the best yellow top Optima for my machine?

Thanks for listening

Just goes to prove that my questions are still valid. I've searched for some of the answers but found nothing specifically answering the questions. And they still are, for me, unanswered....

Take care

Here are the Optima batteries for your app...
  • Part #: 9014-045
    YellowTop®; Deep Cycle Battery; Group D34/78; Cold Crank Amps 750; Crank Amps 870; Res. Capacity 120; Ampere Hour 55; Top Terminal; L-10 in.; W-6 7/8 in.; H-7 13/16 in.; BOXED;

As for the 130amp question...just go and purchase a 130amp alternator. Replace what you have...with a new one. No harness issues...a direct replacement. Just easier to do...and why fuss around when you do not need to?
