Know it all son says I should change out the sending units as well.....says the old ones may not work after removing from 20 year old tanks. I guess new straps are in order.....change the fill hoses a good idea, too?

anything rubber should be changed while you're in there.
My bet is that even trying to remove such things would make them rip and crumble.

Not to be a heretic, but only good german rubber lasts more than 15-20 years.

You could try to get a gas tank from a Bronco. They had the big 35 gallon tanks if I remember right. You should get new fuel filler hoses but I would think you could still use the sending unit from the donor tank. Just look in the paper for someone parting out an 80-86 Bronco and make 'em a deal.

I've thought about used, or junkyards....but, I figure a bad tank can clog a filter at the most inconvenient time (rust), so I'm going with new....I plan on keeping this truck forever.

Which supplier do y'all feel comfortable with...I'm starting to consider looking around Houston for a local supplier. I'm getting hooked on this on-line ordering.

Well, LMC Truck has a 38 gallon replacement tank to replace the stock 19 gallon unit.
It includes the lock ring, o-ring, drop bolts, spacers, and an adapter kit to extend the old sending unit so it will work on the new tank. They have it listed for $300.

Id replace the sending units too. They are known for their failures. I've replaced both senders on my '83 truck. Each would drop to E at a different point. I got tired of guessing how much gas the 351W had not sucked down. I'm never right.

I've considered the 38gal.....but, I'd have to move the tire support and I don't know if I could run dual exhaust at some point. Seems like an easier fix however.....only one install, only one sending unit, etc. Same fuel supply as 2 19's, but then, I'd have a switch I can't use by the heater-A/C control panel.

I'm making this difficult......I may go with two 19gal poly's and not think about rust anymore. I'd never have to worry about tanks again.

Just for grins, I've thought about the 38gal AND a 19 side mount.....

SMART KID !! Listen to him on this one Pops!

Most ALL sending units tend to go BAD after 20 years or so. I know there are friggin outrageously EXPENSIVE, but considering the alternative of keeping an eye on the Odometer ALL THE TIME....

the zone can get the tanks at a decient price and definitly replace the senders so you know they will last as long as the new tanks. I bought a new sender from my local ford dealer for 65 dollars just something to think about maybe check with the dealer for prices too.
