1.0 or stock turbo

I'm fixing to install my intercooler, and I know I will lose a couple lbs of boost. Would I be better off to install a 1.0 housing or stick with my stock turbo. What can I expect with a 1.0 housing?

i would go with the 1.0 loss of a couple pounds of boost isnt as bad as alot of people think it is. your getting a cooler denser air charge into the motor making it more effecient. a 1.0 will spool up alot quicker. but it will move your peak rpm range down a little. moved mine down to about 2400rpm it was about 2800rpm with the 1.15

1" housing is working good for me when I pull my 5er. It will spool up faster to help me get going. barebackjack, what did you mean about peak RPM"s dropping? Is that when you stop making more boost? If so, seems low to me.

the efficent range moves down. you can see this in the flow charts for the turbo with that housing. you can still make more boost up higher but your drive pressures start getting higher and egts will be higher also. the smaller housing cant move the volume of air in the higher end. another thing that works well is a larger compressor wheel in conjunction with the slightly smaller housing.

Thanks for explaining that, makes sense. So much to learn, so little time.

If you're still breathing there's still time.

i took mine to a local turbo shop in town and milled/polished the inside of the compressor housing out and put the larger compressor wheel in it. theres a 88mm compressor wheel in there now. eventually im going to twin the truck or just go with a gt38r it would be basically the same turbo i have now but ball bearing.
