Dana 70 question

I was scoping out the local salvage yards saturday and found a few axles that i know are Dana 70's that were already out of the vehicles, but they are all missing something or another and im not into piecing other people's junk back together...then i came across a van in a different yard that im thinking should have a 70 in it but im not too sure, it was cruded over and i didnt have a scraping tool on hand....the van didnt have any badges on the side of it, but it was a late 70s Ford that said supervan on the rear door..im thinking this would be an E-350, am i incorrect?? the guy at the yard told me i could have the axle for $225 out the door, if it IS a dana 70 then im thinking i should jump on the deal ASAP...if im wrong about it, i guess ill settle for buying an NP205 for $250 at another yard....what do you guys think??

A local yard here cut the axle out of an e-350 before it was crushed and it turned out to be a Dana 61 instead of a 70. I dont know about the price of dana 70's in your area, but 250 for a NP205 seems pretty pricey to me-I have about 3 of them lying around that I have priced at $100 each and cant get any bites (around here anyway)

Ditto, that axle shouldn't cost you more than about $100 if you're at a self pull yard. Around here you'll pay a couple hundred if you have the wrecking yard go pull one for you because they don't like the hassle of it.

you can see why i figured 225 was cheap, the quotes ive had at other places werent far off from those ones, people are pretty proud of their junk around here...the one i mentioned before wasnt at a pull a part, thats the price of them pulling it...i could probably get it cheaper if i did the work....in my search for axles and Tcases in the central Oklahoma area those are the cheapest rates ive found so far..i will keep searching though, maybe i will find a better deal somewhere...hey stallyn, you wouldnt be anywhere close to oklahoma would you?? there isnt ANYPLACE around here selling a Tcase that cheap....thats why i havent had my F-250 out in the past 6 months...thanks for the opinions guys...

Did you get the list of axles I sent you? Is the t-case in your 78 out? I can look around more if needed, or I can atleast try to.

Edit: Never mind the first question, you edited your post while I was typing mine.

That's how all axles at the salvage yards are around here. You can't get anything cheap, unless you are friends with them.

believe me, if i could afford prices like that, i would be hauling a badass truck to every 4wheel event around!!! but the sad truth is that im limited to salvage yard sales and the occasional freebie, so you wont see me at any events for the next few years....if i dont find a Tcase or Dana 70 under 200 bucks then im gonna bite the bullet and buy these ones right after christmas...

Man, it seems the local area yards have me coming soon, they've priced me a 205 for about $70

I've yet to ask about an HP D60.

Have you tried to talk them down?

Funny part is that is AFTER i talked 'em down 75 bucks!! 4x4's arent that plentiful here in oklahoma, considering the most snow ive seen in this state was about 6 inches a few years ago.....man i miss the deep snow back in PA!!

BTW, nice avatar, ive had that same one and a few others saved on my puter for awhile now...time to bring one out since there are other juggalos roaming these pages!!

Dang, I guess that Demand dictates the price.
