if i were to replace my turbo with another stock unit, i would buy one of those. i have been searching for van turboes every week, and there is always one of these on ebay. they look to be very well ported, the intake tract looks incredible. good price too.

Yeah, I've also been looking for van turbos but they never have any. I have found ones at junkyards for about $275 but I'm still in search for a lower price. If this is just as good as the van turbo w/ a ATS Housing I figure the ebay one would be a better deal. Van Turbo + ATS Housing = about $700. I'll try to ask the seller the sizes of the housings.

i didnt say that was. what i meant, was that every week when i made my search for a "van turbo", i would come across one of these which is basically stock, with a ported shroud and cleaned up. the point was that there is one on there almost every week.

That is a stock intake shroud that they tapered the intake port. It isn't ported!

mech2161,
Please excuse a dumb question, but I'm serious. What is PORTED when it comes to turbos? I am not even sure what the term PORTED really means. What would be the difference between this turbo and a truly ported turbo?

go to the EBAY turbo and look at the intake side, you wil see it is an impeller with the shroud around it. now look at the intake on THIS TURBO, (you will have to click on "diesel performance" on the left and then click on "ford") do you see the extra ports or bleedder ring between the impeller and the shroud, that is a "ported shroud" which helps to reduce harmfull turbo surge/stall.

OK, that's alot clearer now. I guess porting has nothing to do with the turbo outlet since the compressor wheel is already getting all it can from the inlet by not stalling.
