Fuel Pressure Regulator

I am trying to replace the fuel pressure regulator on my 1998 F 150 V-6 4.2L. I purchased a Haynes repair manual, but it only shows the location on the V-8 model. Can anyone help?

Hi and welcome to FTE

The FPR should be located at the back of the engine on the passenger's side. Unfortunately I think you have to remove the upper intake manifold to access it

Did you have to take the intake manifold off to access yours? I now have to replace my fuel pressure regulator as well in a 1999 4.2 v6. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I worked on a 4.2 today and took a look at where the fuel pressure regulator is. Actually I couldn't even see it. It's under the upper intake so yes, you have to remove the upper intake to replace the FPR
The upper intake really isn't all that bad to remove though if I remember right.
Why are you replacing your FPR?

My service engine soon light is on so I had a diagnostic test ran on it that took 2 1/2 hours and they told me it was the FPR. I changed the fuel filter already so I know it is good.
