400/ 351 throwout fork
i just got a flywheel for my 78 f250 and it included the pressure plate/ clutch assembly. the assembly that my uncle origionally had on there was off of a 351m, it has many tabs and a smaller clutch disc. but because of the different flywheel bolts i can only run the 400 pressure plate/ clutch. will i have to change out the throwout fork and bearing to fit the new assembly, and if so do you know the part numbers by any chance? thank you.

Ive been where your going, and although I cant give you part numbers, one thing for sure is the pressure plate, flywheel, throwout bearing, clutch lever and bellhousing must all be an engineering match-else you get into all kind of sticky problems and then you end up throwing good money after bad. A good site for parts research is the rockauto site and another good site for clutch information is Novak clutch. The 400 cube engine should take a 12 inch diaphragm pressure plate, but if there is a 3 finger type pressure plate on it now then that bellhousing lever setup will not work. The diaphragm and the 3 finger are different thicknesses. The correct throwout bearing for a 78 with a 400 is a N1439SA ( I think ) for a 12 inch diaphragm plate. The clutch lever should be stock Ford. A key issue is in the new kit did you get a diaphragm pressure plate or a 3 finger?
