65 F-100

Hello Everyone, I just wanted to say hello and let you know how much I enjoy this site. I have gotten some really helpful info reading your comments. I have a 65 F-100 long bed, 352, auto. My problem right now is that I put new door weatherstripping on a couple years back and the drivers door just doesn't close all the time. Sometimes it will close just fine, others I have to slam it over and over. Is this bad weatherstripping or a bad instalation job by me?

I Have done the same as you, undid and adjusted the henges, looked over the latches for broken places and just can't get it. The passenger door is great but the driver door stinks. I am thinking some parts are worn out because the drivers door is always being used but am not sure what parts I need.

with the old weather stripping worn out or missing, every time you close the door you hammer the door catch with the striker just a little. over time, it drifts out of alignment. Once you replace the weather stripping, the door hits the rubber first, and is cushioned. it can't reach the striker as easily.

you'll have to adjust the position of the striker, moving it out untill the door catches easy, but still seals against the weatherstripping. It may take a die grinder for the mounting holes, but it shouldn't need to move more than an 1/8th inch

I concur with 66beater 100%. . . . everything must be in good working order and then correctly adjusted to operate correctly, including hinge pins.
The replacement weather seal available today is not the same as what came OEM in the 60s. The Butyl Foam compounds aren't even the same 40 years after the fact. So whrn you calculate foam density, slight variations in weather seal cross sections, normal wear, tear & "sag" in a forty year old cab & door, misfit is very understandable.
Checking the latching mechanism, then adjusting the striker outward is the answer, and as the "new" or Replacement weather seal "comforms" to the "new fit" keep taking the slack out by bringing the striker back in to compensate over time. . . .
Result = Noise Free, Leak Free, tight door fit. When adjusted & working right the door should double click shut & Latched with firm pressure. . . . FWIW

Thank you so much for the help. I wondered about the striker plate but have never messed with it. I must have got lucky with the passenger door as it closes real nice. So you say I should adjust the striker outward toward the door? I will do this and get back to you with what I'm sure will be more questions.
