Well since this is my 300th post I figured I would follow form with a cool post/thread, (though not as cool as fishy's top fuel fact sheet),
Any way as the 49' gets closer & closer to being complete, one major component has been pushed to the side line, as I wanted to get most of the truck done first, the main goal for the engine was based on a couple simple rules
1, had to be natrally asperated
2, one carb
3, 572 ci
4, at least 1000 hp
Well, when I got the money togeather & got ready to order parts I thought to myself, "I hate rules,,, why set them for myself ?"
So after a little shopping around I found this fine example of a big block for a reasonable price, after chatting with the owner & a quick trip to Wichita KS for a good look at it, I loaded up the engine & now have it home,
Here are a couple pics of how it looked when I picked it up, http://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gall...=96470&width=0
and http://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gall...=96469&width=0
Details are,
Ford SVO block
3.77 stroke forged crank
Venolia rods & pistons (4.530 bore)
SVO A-460 aluminum heads
The intake is a home made steel unit wich I have already replaced with my own aluminum version,
on top of that is a 14-71 Littlefield high helix delta plate blower & enderle bird catcher injection for the alky,
also included was a three stage peterson dry sump system, I tossed the home made steel pan and fabbed an aluminum one from a stefs front sump pan,
Currently the engine is disassembled, It was just freshend with new rods, pistons, valves, springs, bearings, ect, but I wanted to completely disassemble the engine & check it over, so far all is well,
I have everything I need to reassemble it (except time), right now it looks like the first week in december I will get it all put togeather & set in the truck, then a week or so to finish up the plumbing, hopefully by the end of december we will be lighting it up, I'll post more pics when I have the engine reassembled,

I don't think it really matches your truck at all and that bird catcher isn't gonna clear the hood. Since you just got it all painted why cut it up? Send me that engine and I'll send you mine. It'll easily clear your hood with no problems, you don't have to run alky so you won't be tempted to drink your fuel. Heck, I'll even help you out and pay shipping.
Freakin awesome! I can't wait to see this thing all put together. That truck has been in the making a LONG time.

I'll keep that in mind if it doesn't work out,
Your right the hood will have to be cut, (so much for the weekend in getting that scoop fit on there), I think there is room on the hat for another sticker though,
As far as drinking my fuel it's funny you brought that up, I was thinking when I get the truck running I'll paint my fuel cans to look like beer bottles,

Curious, how many ponies is that beast supposed to turn out?
When I picked up the engine I was told the blower was 46% over driven & made 36 pounds of boost, & over 1800 horse,
The plan is to derate the engine and make it live a little longer,
I have already bought the pullys to make it 25% over driven, we are shooting for 15-20 pounds of boost, & someware around 1200-1400 hp,

WOW! I love it. I can't wait to see it in the truck. That is about what I want for my 48 someday. Keep up the hard work.
I'm just curious, are your motor mounts higher than normal? The reason I ask is because, I have seen a few F-1's that were blown and everything was hidden under the hood. It would be nice to hide it, just so everyone doesn't know, but I know I would want to flaunt it. It will look awesome.
I think rob is going to have a some competition in here for biggest motor ?
I still got him beat on cubic inches but that thing will make 2 of my engines for power.
skipped, I noticed you mentioned Venolia rods, and pistons does that mean it has alum rods? I don't remember off hand what you say your gonna do with that great looking truck, but just remember with alum rods your gonna need to tear it down atleast once a year to check them for length, and stretch. Also while you have it torn down get a beginning measurement on them so you know how much stretch you are getting.
Also I noticed you mentioned it having a forged crank, are you sure it's forged? or is it a billet unit? up until very recently the only forged unit that could be had was the stock 429 truck units or the Boss 9 which has a different front snout (actually both have different snout even from each other) and offset grind them to the 3.77" stroke. Just curious is all.
BTW that is an awesome looking engine, and will make one heck of an addition to that great looking truck.

Rob, it does have aluminum rods, a yearly tear down has always been in the plan, even with N/A motor I was going to build, Good call on getting a rod length while it was apart, I had not thought of that,
I am sure it is a forged crank, I "think" it is an offset ground 429 crank, I am not sure what snout they had but this one looks like a bbc diameter, and a little shorter than a stock 429/460 snout, also it only has one key way instead of one timing key & one woodruff key for a dampner,
compairing snouts this one is huge compaired to the stock unit,
after a close inspection I can see that it is internally balanced, there is a mallory slug at both end of the crank,
When I get to a good point to take some pics, I'll post them so you can see the crank, it is a very nice looking piece,
