How many quarts of oil

Question how many quarts of oil ? I just changed the oil 5w-30 mobil 1 added 6 quarts like the manuel states, checked it and it's on the low mark so I added 1 more quart now it shows to the full mark what gives. Truck is 2002 f150 supercrew 5.4 4x4. Is it because of the engine oil cooler. Also I was checking it on level ground. Thanks

That sounds logical. I too am planning on going with synthetic oil, next oil change.

It takes 6 qts., however this leaves the dipstick on the low side of the full range, which is fine. If you feel better adding another quart, that's up to you. I know a lot of people do this, but I don't think it's neccessary

Do you use the motorcraft oil filter? It has a drain back valve, which should help with that. I've never had any start up noise, but we don't have much of a winter in S. Texas.

I wouldn't reccommend using synthetic oil on a truck unless you started using synthetic on it when you bought it. you start using synthetic on an older engine and you'll have oil leaks where you didn't even think possible. so unless you're already using synthetic, i wouldn't use it imo

Just bought truck it has 40,000 miles on it and yes I am useing motorcraft filter. When I start first thing in the morning it makes like a disel type of sound for 2.5 seconds, then its gone. Hoping that the mobil 1 5w-30 will help out.

Now you have me thinking. Ever since my last oil change, or at least twice, I have noticed a very slight rattle for about 1 sec when starting it when its very cold. Maybe I'll check the level. They may not have added for that last quart.
