New truck, 500 miles no towing?
Bought an 06 PSD dually to pull my toy box. I need to move my trailer to a different storage facility asap, but I don't have the 500 miles on it that Ford recommends to drive before towing.
My question is this. The new storage yard is only about 10 miles from the old one. Would I hurt the truck (engine, trans, or rear end) by pulling my trailer to the new yard? I could do either freeway speeds or side streets keeping it below 40 miles per hour.
What do you all think?

go for a long drive.
no use screwing it all up from the beginning. Apprently it is very important for everything to get seated while under minimal stress. go for a long drive and avoid the regret and worry that you may have shortened the life of the engine. just my opinion. You didn't say how heavy the load was. I'm assuming its heavy.

My understanding is that the ring and pinion set need to "wear in" to each other and that there is also a certain amount of "work hardening" that takes place during the break-in period. I have also heard of people ruining consecutive gear sets by rushing the process.
That being said ...
Drive it around as much as you can before you attempt anything. Even a couple hundred miles is better than nothing. Five hundred miles is not an absolute number; ie 475 miles = no go, 500 miles = go. It is a good recommendation for normal towing.
What you want to do does not have to be "normal towing".
IF you take it really cool and easy, driving like you have a fresh egg between your foot and the throttle, stick to the side streets and avoid putting any significant amount of torque to the rear end IMHO you can pull it off without any damage.

I'd wait until 500 miles. There's a good article in this thread you should read about breaking-in a new diesel engine: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...ight=breaking+
