Unhappy Poor gas mileage, I think

Does anyone know what kind of gas mileage the 4.2L is supposed to get? I dont think Ive ever gotten over 16 mpg since I bought my truck, but right now I only average around 14 and 90% of my driving is highway. Any suggestions to increase my mpg?

MPG can vary widely form one driver/truck to the next.

The 2000 I used to own (5 speed - 3.55 rear end) averaged 15-16 city and about 19 hiway.
Besy I ever got was 21 mpg.

My 2005 (auto - 3.55 rear end) avegrages about 16-17 city and 20 hiway.
I can get 22 hiway out of it if I drive 60 mph.

Just check the normal stuff, plugs, plug wires, air filter, etc.
Pedal pressure seems to be the biggest factor in gas mileage. Lead foot = low mpg.
