wont start when its wet outside

Not raining wet but mornings when their is a lot of moisture covering the vehicle. Now in the haynes book under trouble shooting is mentions that it could be because of excessive moisture on ignition components.

Anyone ever delt with this?? How would I check to see if this really was the problem? Any other ideas on what it could be. Now winter is coming and there shouldnt be to many more moisture filled morning but would like to get it fixed ( if its cheap).

Thanks a lot for any help.

But frost is the same thing as morning dew.

At any rate, check electrical connections. Anything required to start the truck from battery terminals, starter, start solenoid, ignition module, cap, rotor, to plug wires. They need to be secure and without excessive dirt or corrosion. Connectors at the ignition module and the distributor should be smeared with dielectric grease to ensure good connection and a moisture barrier. Plug wires benefit from dielectric grease in them as well as it keeps the connections moisture free and makes removing them again less apt to destroy the rubber boots. If the problem persists and nothing looks questionable with the electrical connections, take a close look at the plug wires. Old wires that have outer jackets that are getting stiff or brittle will actually absorb moisture through the jacket allowing spark to ground out before it gets to the plugs.

I had this happen and it was a far more difficult problem to diagnose but start here ans see what you get.

I have an 88 and had the EXACT same problem. It was definitely electrical and what did it for me was an Ignition Module. That's not to say that it's not your wires, cap or rotor though. They are all in the same place though (at least it is on the 88) so why not get 'em all.

I had asimilar problem,It was a little more sporatic though. It would run when wet or raining out, then just stall out sometimes.Only when it was wet out though. Not even a hiccup out of her when dry.I finnaly ended up replacing anything electrical related to ignition.Never found the culprit but I did eliminate the problem.Happy hunting

Those symptoms were part of my problem too rudder9, and I'm willing to bet their lurking with the OP's truck too.

BTW....I guess you're near Philly?
