97 F-150 Instrument Lighting

Hi, I have at least two lights out in my instrument panel. Both? of them are on the left-hand side. I can still read the speedometer at night, but the left side is dark. Is it possible to replace these without dismantling the dash as my Haynes manual seems to suggest?

Thanks, Mark

No you have to remove the instrument cluster. Its not too bad of a job. With a little mechanical skill, I would estimate 1-1.5 hours.

Thanks Ccoram.

Sounds like fun. I hate taking that stuff apart -- it never seems to go back just right. Guess that is better than getting a ticket and explaining I can't see my speedometer when the next light goes out!! Reckon I'll replace them all while I am there.

By the way, is there anything to watch out for like hidden clips or other problems that are not readily apparent?

Thanks again, Mark

The hardest part is getting the cluster exposed - follow the ritual in the Haynes manual. The cluster only goes together one way - it would be pretty hard to mess that up.
