A tune up, new filters etc.

Check the thermostat. If the motor is running too cold, it will use more fuel.

Replace the timing chain with an aftermarket set, and install the chain 'straight up'.

Rebuild it with 9.0:1 Compression Ratio.

i'm gonna go with a big ouch on the mpg's!!! with those tires you're equivlant to 3.73 gears, pretty good for highway cruising... danlee's gotter nailed for increases that are cheap and easy- tune-up and filters... headers and good flowing exhaust helps FE motors alot..
