Hydraulic steering

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Mar-02 AT 07:22 PM (EST)]Afew comments on your system---the parts are hard to find----The draglink---is available from LMC (800-222-5664) , the hydraulic cylinder can be taken to napa and they will send it to whereever and have it rebuilt for about 275 , the control valve comes in two types , garrison and bendix ,I was able to pickup anew bendix for my 77 hiboy for 250 , the bendix control valve is fairly hard to locate---probably the hardest part to rebuild--in my opinion---the pump is widely available as well as the steering box---I will definitely be in the minority-because i kept the old system----I will eventually convert over to a later model system but for now I want to enjoy my "new" truck -----Even if you convert to a newer system ----you will still spend some bucks , unless you spend money on old parts---which i didn't see much sense in doing----the conversion is not easy , if done correctly , but will result in a more responsive and normal feeling power steering system---fd

Thanks for the info on where i can get the existing parts for my truck but i want to due away with that system and put a full hydraulic steering system on my truck like in the edtion of 4 wheel drive it has no steering box or hard links to wheels only hydraulic cylinders
my truck is too high for stock box and was wondering if anyone knew of a hydraulic steering system for my truck

One problem with the system in the magazine is it wasn't DOT legal. I don't think its legal anywhere to not be mechanically linked on your steering.

Yes you can do that swap, but I think someone in a previous post is correct,it is not DOT legal. If you already have the power steering pump and cylinder,a rotary hydraulic control valve and some plumbing is about all you will need to do this conversion.A ny place that sells fluid power equipment should be able to get you a rotary valve.I think that even Northern Hydraulics sells them now.I usually graft the rotary valve onto the bottom of the stock steering column to maintain a good appearance and to keep all of the components outside of the cab.If the new valve looks too pricey, you can sometimes find used one's on salvage industrial or some farm equipment(combines, pavement rollers, fork trucks).I hope this info helps some.
