why a std cab?
I had a std cab truck(TOYOTA TACOMA), great truck, stll own it
However, I hated driving a std cab, way too small, not enough leg room and can never recline driver's seat enough to be comfortable
Def get the supercab, ext cab model
Get the diesel!!!!!!!!!!!

You should have lots to choose from (at least in XL trim) at an attractive price. What you're after is the standard work truck. If you're looking for an XLT or Lariet in a regular cab the search will be a bit harder, especially because of the manual shift.

Coming from a mustang gt you may want the V-10. The V-8 may be alright for your application, but definitely consider the V-10.

Other than that advice, the Superduties are a solid truck. Mine easily handles anything I throw at it.

I agre with deacjrt. Go with the V10 you will be sorry if you buy the 5.4. I had a 5.4 in a f250 Crew and it was a PIG. Don't even think of passing someone. The V10 in not much more. You won't even notice the MPG between the two. I am not saying the V10 is a rocketship but atleast you could pass someone. I don't think my f250 5.4 even got pass 85 MPH. Now the 6.0 desiel have some power, but that is 6k more.
I hope this helps. I am not tring to bash the 5.4 but you are going from a mustang to a brick and the 5.4 is not a bad driver it is just under powered.

When I was looking at truck I drove a bunch of differant SD trucks I hate the looks of a extra cab or 4 door truck so since my family now only consists of my wife and I so the regular cab is right for me and looks like a truck not a moms taxi with a truck bed (no offence intended ) .
I drove (in 04) V10's and 5.4'swith 373 auto's and thought they felt gutless so I was thinkin the V10 wasn't right for me till I drove a reg cab 5.4 6 speed with a 4'10 rear and that baby flew down the road so I said to myself , self if that 6 speed and low gears made that 5.4 run good maybe a V10 with 6 speed and 4:30 rear would run great so thats what I bought I have not regeted my decision yet and you don't have all the noise, stink, high maint. and high fuel prices, besides diesel engines are for big rigs and guy's who want to be big.

Exclamation

Go with the 3-valve v-10 with 410 or 430s. The power is an eye opener, believe me! I know, I have one. If you want to know more go into the v-10 forum.

Thanks for all the info. I am planning on going this sat. to look around. I know i don't want the v-10 i am still undecided.Has any body driven the new 5.4 In 05 the horse power was increased to 300. That is more than my 94 460 had. I don't think i can afford the deisel. Even though that is what i would like to get. But i do no heavy hauling. I just like the looks of a superduty much more than the 150's. So that is why i was leaning towards the 5.4.

Heck if you are buying a super duty because of looks, the 5.4L will be adequate for your needs. If you get used, look for one with either 4.10 or 4.30 gears. They will help in the overall drivability of the truck. If you do find a perfect truck but it has the V10, you wont be dissapointed. The MPG between the two has been hashed over and over and over again in here on these boards. The consensus is if they are not the same, they are only 1 maybe 2 mpg different.

The diesel will be pricy and if not towing, and waste of big money.

the 5.4 will work great if you go with the 4.10 or the 4.30 gear gas milage now thats a deferant story the 5.4 sucks the gas down but with that gaering it has plenty of power

Hell yes, get the 3 valve v-10 that thing is a power house. The fastest heavy duty truck you can get. and when you need to tow something the thing will pull anything as fast as you want. Get the 3 valve
