Lost Key

I have a 2002 F-150 base model p/u. Does anyone know what the cost is to have the ignition key replaced if lost.

122 Dollars, 27 for the key and 85 to program it and tax, just had this done. If you have 2 keys and want to get another one you can program the 3rd one yourself, but you must have 2 working keys to do this.

you can buy a pair of keys on e-bay for about $25.00 take them to the local hardware store and have them cut them. I took the two keys to the ford dealer and had them program it to my truck. i had one key. They charged $40. took about 30 minutes. I live in a small town in the midwest. Have heard the high dollar prices, but suggest you check around.

I agree with this route, save some cash and keep your spare in a SAFE place!

If your key is the larger one with an off center oval, then it has a chip inside for theft deterance. You can pick up a couple of keys off Ebay and have them cut locally cheap. Probably $25 out of pocket. IF you have two working keys, you can then reprogram the new one yourself. You have the keys cut first. Then turn on ignition with one working key, turn off, turn on another working key, turn off. Then put in new key and turn on. Leave on until theft light flashes. You've programed new key. I think you have something like 10 or 15 seconds to do it all though. So you have to be somewhat quick.

So if you have two working keys, do yourself a favor and make a spare now. Otherwise it'll take a dealer with their programer to do it. Then it'll cost you dealer fees. Which is why the $100 mentioned above.

Personally, I bought two off Ebay and use those as my daily keys. I leave the originals in the house in a box.
