Question "Water in fuel" indicator...

OK, not a big deal, but at 2500 miles the "Water in Fuel" text came up on the dash just as I pulled into the driveway.

It's pouring rain, and I really don't want to have to deal with getting under the truck right now, and I have to be at work early tomorrow (probably still raining).

How long can I let this go? Another day (maybe another 100 miles)?

You can go "awhile" but should get it drained within 300-400 miles. Great directions in the tech file- Good luck

Cool, thanks.

Whe I started it up this morning, there was no inidicator, and I didn't see anything all the way to work. I'll get it taken care of when I get home tonight.

Of course, there's a full tank of fuel, so this is going to be a bit messy. Good thing I have the valve and not the plug.

I got my valve from the Ford dealer- Special order. Came in an International box.
Ford part# 6E7Z-9C082-A or International part# 2589259C91. Please note: This number is for 03/04, I believe the 05/06 might be different.

How long do you have before you need to drain?????, is dependant entirely on how much water you may have in your fuel tank. Sounds like you may have gotten during your last fill-up.

I have 46k miles and drain once a month. Have never had the water in fuel light come on. It seems to me, IMO, to be easier this way. It doesn't matter weather your full or empty...it drains and then stops. About a cup or so.

Does anybody know if you can buy the valve on-line? I really don't live or go by the dealer very often. I had to do mine on the side of the road one time and got that junk all over me. With another 500 miles to go on our trip, my family could not wait for me to stop and change my shirt. A valve would be nice.

Dogs: Try Powerstrokeshop.com. It's a Ford dealership that sells online. Prices are pretty competitive and they're easy to work with. They've always responded to my questions in a timely manner.

I typed the part numbers in the search area on the site listed, but come up with very different parts. I have an 06 F250...Anyone know what the part number would be or how that part would be exactly worded? I tried what I thought it would be called, but no luck.

Thanks

BP22, Great link! Its the first picture of the plug I have seen. May get one but I have become pretty effcient with my allen wrench and wal-mart plastic bag. Put hand in bag, loosen plug, drain into bucket. I can now do it with out getting diesel on myself and/or front shaft...most of the time, well, sometimes. Ok, I have done it once and stayed clean. I think I will get that plug. Ha
