they mentioned scrapping the project a long time ago. it has since been replaced with the sporttrac thing. which is damn ugly. you can see a picture of it in the comparison forum.
The Lightning has been put on SVT's back burner, they are focusing on the Cobra, and perhaps by 2009 there will be room for the L's again. There are also changes scheduled for the F-150 that will need to be addressed. Also remember it took 4 years for the 2nd gen Lightning to come out.

we will be building lightnings again,, the build date has been set back a little but wait till you see it and feel and drive it its goin to be the most awesome truck on the road
Will be putting out 2007 Adrenalin Sport Trac instead
I have seen some stuff on the web for a slammed out version of the Sport Trac Adrenalin. It is supposed to be all wheel drive with 4.6 supercharged with a 6 speed auto tranny. It looks sharp with 21" wheels and short box. Here is a link:
My understanding (gained from reading several articles) is that Ford doesn't want to play second fiddle to the Dodge R/T truck (can't recall the name of it at this moment) so they pulled it. That doesn't exactly make sense to me but I suspect it's also because that it's a low production vehicle to begin with (and therefore will not be a big money maker for Ford) and the Dodge R/T truck will just cut into what little profit there is to gain by having the truck. Just a suspicion.

Do you work in the SVT department?
If so, please tell all!
Last I heard Ford negotiated cancelation costs with a company that supplies parts on the third generation Lightning platform. Of course Ford has not put anything out officially yet.... but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

That makes a lot of sense. The Lightning didn't have much for competition and with todays gas prices it's a shrinking market. They'll probably bring it back someday but for now we'll have to wait.

I doubt it, since SVT is in Dearborn, MI and he is posting from KY. Maybe he works at the F-150 assembly plant.
If you call SVT and talk to 10 different people you will get 10 different answers about the future of the Lightning. I went through the same thing about a year ago when they decided to scrap the SVT Focus. I was considering a new-gen Lightning, since I am a recovering Mustang addict and cannot own another one. Obviously, there is no plan to release a new Lightning, for any of 100 reasons until at the earliest MY 2007.
The sad truth is that Ford has sunk so much money into it's Euro/world-platform programs to develop better cars for everyone other than it's home market, we get the lefteover afterthoughts for our production vehicles. I wouldn't hold your breath on that Sport-Trac Adrenaline thingy either. SVT is only into one thing and it doesn't have a bed on the back of it.
Besides, the SVT department is probably bitter since they were left out of the Ford GT and Shelby programs altogether.
