Removing spindle from front axle

Removing spindle from front axle
I am removing the front brakes from my son's 54 F-100 front staight axle. I am taking it completely apart for powder coating, then replacing the brakes with discs. I need to remove the spindles before powder coating. I have removed all bolts but the spindles will not come off. What am I missing and how do I remove them.
Thanks,
Joe

You need to remove the King Pin. The king pin attaches the spindle to the axle behind the the spindle plate.
The kig pin is held in place by a tapered pin, remove the nut from the tapered pin and tap out.
While the king pin is out I strongly suggest replacing the king pin bushings, they will require line honing.
Please consider purchasing a Shop Manual and an Illistrated Parts Manual for your vehicle they will be a tremendous help to you.

Thanks for you quick response and advice. We are not restoring the truck to original, we are hot rodding it. The appearance will be very close to original however. Do you think the service manuals will help considering how we will be putting the truck back together?

It sounds as if your using the original suspension, body parts etc. It will be well worth the money as there are exploded views, tolerances etc.
By the way Stainless Steel Brakes, makes a King pin set that uses bearings and will make the truck handle better. http://www.ssbrakes.com/products/sea...=King+Pin+Kits
