The shock mount bracket on the drivers side also holds the emergency brake cable bracket on one of the bolts. This shock bracket is flipped in the opposite direction as the passenger side to allow it to fit with the brake cable bracket. It also is trimmed to make room for the brake hard line to fit under it in the frame rail.

Lightbulb

Thanks Ken, now I am working on a rear airbag setup using some custom brackets I bought on eBay. They are cut to look like an iron cross. I think I can fit them on the original cross member the shocks used to be on. It is behind the axle. The lower bracket is already made to fit on a 3 inch axle tube. They will be like a helper spring that can be used to adjust the ride height. I am going to see if I can make them a bolt on.

But before that I want to finish the brake lines and bleed the brake system. I couldn't believe that the old brake lines had copper tubing spliced into the steel lines on the front and rear. There was so much crud on the frame that I could not see this until I removed the old lines. This truck has seen a lot of dirt roads in it's life.

yeah, copper to steel is bad! but as deep into this build you are going, it will all be done in polished stainless, RIGHT?!?! haha. yeah, my truck too has seen it's fair share of dirt roads, but amazingly enough, with a borrowed (and cheap quality) pressure sprayer (notice I didn't say HIGH pressure) I was able to knock all of the heaviest of crud off to where I could replace any parts I needed to, with ease. aside from the rusted bolts and grease anyway. lol

That air bag set up should be pretty cool. There are brackets out there cut to about any shape you want. It's amazing the things you find when you start to tear down older vehicles. My truck has had a few weird things done to it (Other than my choice of power ).

Having problems with *** web server not letting me update my web page so I uploaded these pics with their file manager.

Made some progress on the '55. It steers now!! Got the new steering column installed along with the power steering box and connected up the drag link. Ron helped me some this weekend bolting the power steering box back on the frame. Here are some links to pics of the latest work.

I didn't do much for wrenching, it was more of a chance for me to watch and learn. Unfortunately, we left before you got that steering column in. It looks awesome and that polished dropped column mount gives a nice touch of bling.

That is looking better and better each update. At this rate you will be driving your truck before I get mine driving again. Keep up the hard work.

Just an observation, but I noticed the frame is not plated(boxed) and you have a V8 sitting on a stand. Not sure what your V8 is going to produce, but will the frame be strong enough to withstand the Torque over the long run.

Your off to a great start, hate to see it flawed by a cracked frame.

This is an original V8 truck. The engine going in it is a 1964 292 Y block so it will bolt up to the original 3 point mounts, 2 on the bellhousing and one on the front cross member. Just like the 239 Y block I removed. It won't be making much more torque than the 239.

I know where there is a 312. It's been outside for along time under a tarp.
