Last night's weather

What did you experience in your area last night? We are about an hour north of Indianapolis, and the wind was outrageous. I don't know if I have ever experienced anything like it before. There was apparently a lot of rain but I couldn't here it for the wind.

Saw some big healthy trees blown down in my neighborhood. Saw the siding at the peak was ripped off on a house. Up here north-east of Kokomo a bit. I didn't even get to hear the wind, seems once i'm asleep the house could fall down, and i'd probably not wake up... Didn't have any power outages at my house, but heard on the radio some ppl do.

I have never woken up because of a storm in my entire life until that storm. I woke up, looked outside to make sure the world wasn't coming to an end, and went back to sleep.

Hope all those in Evansville are okay!

I'm here! Thanks for checking on me Chris. I appreciate it.

The storm missed me by mile. Literally. Well, a couple miles anyway.
About 2 miles south of me is Ellis Park Raceway (horse track). All the buildings but one were pretty much flattened. Even though race season is over about 150 horses were still there for training. 3 have died from injuries. Ellis Park is about 82 years old.

A large trailer park only about 3-4 years old was nearly wiped off the map. That's about 3 miles southeast of me. 18 deaths.

Another town, Newburgh, suffered heavy damage. Roofs ripped off two-story houses, one story houses completely flattened. Newburgh is about 7 or 8 miles east of me.

The tornado has been labeled an F2 when it hit Ellis Park and an F3 (winds from 158-206 mph)/borderline F4 when it hit Newburgh. It finally stopped around Degonia Springs where it killed a husband and his 8 month pregnant wife. I believe the total deaths are 23. So far. Many, many more buildings were damaged/destroyed along the way.

It has been reported than tornados average about 100 yards wide and typically travel up to 10 miles. This one was nearly 500 yards wide and traveled 41 miles. People as far away as 60 miles have contacted local media telling them the have found debris from Evansville in the yard. One person found a receipt for something purchased just the day before with an address from within the trailer park.

The online version of the Evansville Courier and Press has lots of photos.

As for me and mine, we are safe and escaped damage by a whisker.
