Overdrive light flashing and no codes on scanner

Hi guys. I have a 96 PSD and the o/d light is flashing and the transmission is in "safe mode" as I understand it. I purchased a Actron code scanner and check for a DTC and it came back "no codes". Any suggestions on how to proceed now? Thanks in advance.

Get a better scanner. Many scanners can't read Ford transmission codes. There is one, it's just hiding.

I disconnected the batteries for 20 minutes and it cleared the problem for now.
I drove the truck for over a hour with no problems. I'll look into a better scanner if the problem occurs again.

Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts bravespear23.

What was the speedo doing? Could be the speed sensor on top of the rear differential.
