Can anyone out there help with decoding a vin number or telling me what size engine this truck has? It is a 1962 Ford 500 with a dump bed. The Vin # is F50JG281502 . The engine ID is C1AE-6015-K or could be a CIAE-6015-K. We really just want to find out the engine size. Can anyone help?

 

If the engine code holds for 500's as it does for 350's it should be a 223 six cylinder.

The number you listed is just the block part/engineering number.
C1 - production began 61
A - full sized fords
E - engine
6015 - block
K - change to original

 

Do you know what the torque and horsepower range was on the 223 or the 352? We thought it was a 223 but wasn't certain. Is it worth changing to the 352 or do you know?

In '62 the 223 was listed as 114 HP
My book shows the 352 in '65 with 208 HP

I'm not the best source of info on 352's but if I had one I'd use it. As my user name indicates, I'm really hooked on flatheads. I enjoy all the old powerplants. Check with the guys down in the FE forum for specs and practicality of swapping.
