Wink

It will be a Corn Binder engine without a doubt! There are way too many of these out there for Ford to change in mid stream without a really good reason. If you look at the Navistar CTX big pickup, it uses the VT466 rated at 220HP. Plenty of power and fuel economy to tow anything. With fuel consumption a real issue, economy would be my greatest concern. This new engine is to meet emissions requirements and to hype HP to improve or maintain sales against the competition.

That would be interesting for them (Dodge) if they went that way.
I wonder if it would attract more sales in the US
- I know here (despite the fact Dodges aren't sold here) it would.

If Dodge did go with MB engines then what would Cummins do? Would they just concentrate on their bigger engines or go after another automaker?

well see the thing is the MB diesel engine is already in use in the jeep liberty so full size trucks are not far behind. also they need something to pass the 07 smog benchmark and MB knows how to. they also must meet the 2010 benchmark. that is why ford is only going to have the 6.4 around for 3 years then the 6.7 will be released. the cummins has been removed from the freightliner options list and a MB is now standard.

That's the second time I've heard the numbers 6.7L. Anyone have any info on that? Man, trying to keep up with these engines is a task! we have the 6.4L, no official info, and now a 6.7l?

Yes and no...
The engine used in the Liberty was already in the current Mercedes Benz catalogue (we also get a diesel Grand Cherokee here).
There isn't a diesel with the capacity required currently offered by Mercedes.
There is the engines used in the Unimog (too heavy, won't meet emissions, or power/torque requirements).
Even if they did design an engine for it - the Ram is the only vehicle in which it could go into (and a detuned version in the Unimog)
They could do it, but I would find it pretty unlikely in the short term - while the Cummins still sells and meets emissions that is.

nick,

there is a very good interview with the president of IH on the net. it works like this. the 7.3 could not meet 2003 emissions so the 6.0 was brought out. the 6.0 will not meet the 2007 emissions so the 6.4 tt will debut but will not meet 2010 so the 6.7 will debut.

I read that interview, but it said nothing about the 6.4L.
