Turbo lag on a 97 PS

Hey guys.... I have a 97 F350 with the Power Stroke and an automatic transmission in it. Ever since i bought the truck, it has had a slight problem with the turbo. When i first start it up (especially when its pretty cold) the turbo kicks in great and runs strong as ever. But after it has warmed up, like after 10-15 mins, the turbo starts to lag. If i stomp the pedal off the line, it takes the turbo a couple of seconds to kick in. But once the turbo kicks in, the turbo seems to have the full boost. I was wondering if it was a sign of the turbo going bad or what? I installed the superchip programmer to hopefully solve the problem, but it still has the problem when it is warmed up.....Although it is powerful as he** when i first start it in the mornings
Thanks for your input guys....

the turbo is always spooled. it just makes more boost at higher rpms. does the truck have a stumle when you go to accelerate? you may have a bad icp.

Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts beachbummin220

What you are experiencing is the advanced timing the PCM puts in a cold engine to help it to warm quicker. You can stack a fueling box on top of the programmer to simulate the effects if you want to, or you could install a smaller turbine housing on the turbo to get it spooled up faster all the time....or both.

Do you have a pyrometer installed? Hammering on the truck with a tuner without the protection of a set of gauges is playing with fire.

have you checked fuel pressure?

the fuel pressure regulator could be goo'ed up making it not get fuel as quick casing the turbo to be a little laggy.

like the other guys have said if your gonna run a chip gauges are a must and upgraded intake and exaust would help it run better and stay cooler.

Yes it does kinda stumble a little. If you floor it, it has good power.....then stumbles just a little....then the turbo starts kicking in and then has full power.

Exactly what cookie said, when the trucki s cold the PCM advances the timing, this is the new found power. Once it is warmed up it retards it back to stock. all trucks will have turbo lag, its just the way turbos work.

my guess is that you prolly have 3:55 gears they will make the turbo lag more noticable. unless you want to get larger injectors to the cost of $800 min. (which always cure the tubro lag) I suggest a smaller Exhaust housing, 1.0 or a .84 if your gunna keep your stock injectors.

the smaller housing will spool the turbo sooner/faster due to the higher exhaust velocity for a given RPM because it is smaller then the stocker.

shimming your fuel pressure to about 65 will give you better response also.
